Keplar Track and Fiordland National Park
Our first rainy day. Not bad at Day 10. We walked to a lovely lakeside restaurant for breakfast and then returned to Bill and headed towards Fiordland National Park. While driving, it began to rain- hard rain. As we traveled through the valley, the mountains got taller. We went thru the Homer tunnel. 1200 meters long thru a mountain- unsupported, just the natural granite.
The clouds hung low in the valleys andcould hardly see the peaks. Calire and Mel decided to change the order of our hikes due to the weather. We hiked part of the Keplar track. It was only railning lightly at this point, so we put on our rain gear and headed into the forest. Another rainforest looking area. Lush greenery and lots of ferns. We crossed several supsension bridges and found more mushrooms.

The hike ended with us at the end of Lake Manapouri and the dam. No more rain, but very overcast and windy. We had our lunch in a shelter at the dam- great salad Mel prepared.
As we drove to our next location, we saw hundreds of temporary waterfalls in all directions. It was amazing. They told us they would all be gone by tomorrow.
We stopped at a place called the Chasm. A nice 25 minute walk thru forest and deep, rushing water below.
We were off to Milford Sound. We arrived to a beautiful, sunny lakeside resort. Our rooms were on the river's edge with view of the mountains and waterfalls.
Dinner at the lodge- beef cheeks and prok belly. We have an early start tomorrow.
