Wolfhound Tours- Day 5- Dingle Way, Slea Head, ruins and ring forts

After breakfast, we headed towards the coast. Those looking for a hike were dropped off at the Dingle Way trailhead. There were only three of us. Marty, Emilie and myself. The trail hiked up the mountainside and followed the stone walls. As we got to higher elevation, the views were incredible. We felt sorry for the rest of the group for missing such views. We hiked along with the sheep. We passed a small waterfall, ring forts and many, many stone walls. We could see the beach where we would meet the rest of the group.

At the top, we also had views of the Blasket Islands. Our hike ended at Coumeenola Beach. The beach was beautiful with jagged rocks on the edges. We  hiked about 7 miles.

Dave gave us a demostration of Hurling- a national Irish game. A bit crazy with a ball and stick.

Once again, we packed up in the Wolfmobile and on to see more ancient places.
We fisrt stopped at the Gallarus Oratory. A 12th century church. The stones are positioned on each course with their edges projecting inward by a small increment as the wall rise.

Next stop- Caher Dergan- Ring Forts

Our final stop was was to see the Kilmalkedar Church, A 12th century Medieval site and cemetary. There is an ancient sundial, alphabet stone-(The west face of this stone is inscribed with the latin alphabet in half uncial script dating to the 6th century) and an Ogham stone-(This stone may have been a standing stone with the ogham writing added during the early christian period).

We had a bit of time to wander around Dingle before we went on our kayak adventure. We explored the harbor area.

Irish Adventures were our kayak guide. We were fitted in full wetsuits, splash shells and lifejackets. Marty and I were in a tandum kayak. Only 5 from our group decided to do this. We crossed the harbor, then the Dingle Bay and out into the ocean. Upon our return, we learned that we had done a 10k kayak adventure (6 miles) We kayaked along the cliffs, then into a large cove and a cave. It was alomost dark when we returned. A quick shower, dinner and bed. What a day!
