Zermatt and our last day with group
This was our last 1/2 days with the group. Some members left very early this morning to catch their planes, while others left at various times or stayed the extra night like we chose to do. Our final hike was a tour of historic Zermatt, the church cemetery that had past mountaineers buried there. We then went thru a glacier gorge. The water rushed beneath and you could see the erosion of the rock due to the swirling water. We then hiked up thru small villages and hamlets. We reached Furi and the group said their good-byes. Marty and I, along with Jim, a member of our group decided to take the cable car up to Klein Matterhorn. Little did we know that we would ride two different cable cars to get to the peak. An elevator up to an observation deck with breathtaking views of Switzerland so highest peaks as well as the Matterhorn from a different angle. We viewed the glaciers as well. Then we walked thru a long tunnel thru the mountain. When we arrived, we were in Italy and viewing the Italian Alps. There is snow all year long up at this elevation, so there is year- round skiing. The area is so large, the skiers looked like little ants. It was amazing. After spending time up there, we headed down to town for a bit of shopping and to tour the Matterhorn museum. All very interesting. Back to the hotel to enjoy the whirlpool, sauna, steam room and pool. Tomorrow we leave for Grindelwald, our final destination for the next week.

FABULOUS pics of the Matterhorn! Let's see the Watch!
