Waterfalls and wandering
Overcast skies and dark clouds in the distance made us think hard about what we would do today. We decided to explore the Lauterbrunnen valley. We took a train to the town of Lauterbrunnen and once we exited the station, we saw our first set of falls. Staubbach Falls. Water shooting down from the high cliffs above. We could only imagine how much bigger the steam of water would be during the spring and early summer. We continued walking thru the valley; passing green meadows, small farms, glacial streams. It was a lovely and peaceful walk. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to reach Trummelbach Falls. These falls are the only glacier waterfalls inside a mountain that is now accessible due to wonderful Swiss engineering. We took a lift half way up and still had around 200 steps to take to see all 10 waterfalls inside. These falls drain the glaciers from the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. We continued walking down the valley another 30 minutes to Stechelberg where we took the cable car to Gimmelwald; a tiny alpine village high in the mountains. The clouds prevented up from viewing the higher peaks, but it was still a beautiful sight. Lunch on a terrace overlooking the valley and the sun peaked out for a while. Next cable car down to Murren. Another cute village that has an impressive peak to view at the end of Main Street. We decided to keep wandering down to the next villages of Winteregg ( lots of cows wandering around) and finally Grutschalp where we took another cable car back down to Lauterbrunnen fir the train ride back. Great views of the town and valley with the high rock walls on each side. They are predicting rain and maybe snow tomorrow, so who knows what adventure tomorrow will bring. It is nice to come back to the apartment, relax, make dinner and then just hang out. British TV is pretty funny.
