Story of Glass
Started the day off with an excellent breakfast at our hotel ( included and will discuss later). Another overcast day, so we hopped the train to Hergiswill-only a 14 minute train ride to tour Glasi Hergiswill; the only glassworks of Switzerland. They have been blowing glass at this site since 1817. We began with a multimedia tour in English( they do 6-7 languages). Fascinating! Learned about how glass has been made thru the years, the history of glass, how glass evolved in form and function and then a dilly area of priceless glass and an archive of glass products they have made. We watched the glass blowers make a variety of objects and saw the furnace that stores the molten material. A large hands-on area of musical instruments, prisms, and glasses lens were on display to play, look and experiment. Of course there is a shop to buy products. The factory us on the waterfront and is surrounded by the mountains. Train back to Luzern and got ready for the rest of the day.
