Snow on the mountain top

What a difference a day makes. Looked cloudy early this morning, so we left about an hour later than normal to let some of the haze burn off. Our destination- First; a mountainside starting point for many hikes accessible by a 25 minute gondola ride. We had a gorgeous ride up. Near the top, we entered a cloud, but once out and walking, we were above the clouds. There was a good 3-4 inches of fresh snow from the storms yesterday. Our views and scenery would have been completely different if we had done this a few days ago, but I liked the snow. Here in Switzerland, all trails are well marked but nobody cares about distance. All signs are in times. Not sure who decided how much time each trail takes, but even if you ask for directions, you get a time. We averaged faster than posted times, but it is an interesting concept. We hiked in snow almost all day. We hiked to a pair of lakes and viewed great reflections. We could see trout swimming. We continued around the lake and decided to go up the trail to the top of Faulhorn mountain. We passed several old hikers stone huts that are no longer used. At the top, there is a primitive hotel and restaurant. We treated ourselves to a piece of homemade chocolate cake and hot chocolate. It took us about 3 hours to go up and it would take 2 hours to get back down. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day to hike. The clouds were in the valley areas, then later covered the peaks. We still had amazing views. When we reached the gondola station, we decided to do the cliff walk. See the pictures. Very cool. Gondola ride back down with views of the mountains. Back to the apartment to relax on our huge terrace and look at the Eiger and Schreckhorn peaks.
