Bern-the Capitol city
Today, our adventure took us to the capitol city of Bern. An hour train ride and we were there. Lucern ( I know I gave spelled this other ways, we see it differently depending where we are) seems to be a great hub. You can get so many place on an hour train ride.
Bern has blocks of large sandstone buildings with a covered arcade so you can walk everywhere out of the weather if you needed. Most streets are the old stone and there are electric trams and buses that use them as well as bicycles and the occasional car. Everyone walks in these streets, you just have to pay attention. There are many, many public fountains.if you need a drink, you just help youself. We explored 4 different markets taking place. One with fresh fruits and veggies, a meat and cheese market, an artisans market and then a world market with goods, flowers and foods.
We saw several beautiful old churches and even witnessed a wedding. Bells ring for several minutes following.
We walked to all the major sites- clock tower, parliament building, Bern's tallest peak is a cathedral, the older building along the river that were built in the early 1400s. A hike up the hill to the rose garden provided great views of the city.
