Geneva and Yvoire, France
We deviated from our original itinerary today. We were afraid that if we checked our luggage and did what we wanted, we would have to rush in order to catch a train in time to pick up the luggage at the station. So, we got an early train straight to Geneva, first class. Our new hotel, Hotel Suisse is across the street from the station. Again, an excellent choice. This room is very modern and we are on the top floor with a small wrap-around balcony. We can see straight down the street to the water. We arrived at 11 am and our room was ready. Dumped our stuff and away we went. Geneva has a large waterfront promenade on both sides. Parks, swim areas ( yes, some people swim nude or topless) cafes, kids rides, etc. the hotel gave us a transportation pass, so we took a water taxi across the lake. We saw the famous fountain that shoots water very high and the famous working flower clock. Found a little food truck that served sorbet. Apricot! Yum!!!!!!!
It was such a beautiful day, we decided to take a boat ride. The only one available for the afternoon was a 2 hour trip up and across the lower portion of the lake to Yvoire, France. A medieval village built in the 14 th century. There is a castle, but not open to the public. Many little building that are now shops. Great to roam around and see the history, but a bit too touristy now for my taste. The funniest part was the toilets there. See the picture. I will let you figure out what you had to do there. After 1 1/2 hours, back on the boat for 2 hour ride home. Being out on the lake, we were able to see the mountains which we are told are considered the Prealps as well as a few lakeside villages. That was very beautiful to see.
