Doolin Cliff Walk and the Cliffs of Moher- Day 3
Exciting day today. Our Cliff walk along the Cliffs of Moher. We drove to Doolin and met Pat Sweeney, a local farmer that is responsible for developing the trail. He is a 4th generation farmer in Doolin and love the area and his country. Lots of great stories and history as we walked. We walked on well-acorn dirt trails, muddy trails, sloppy trails, wet grass, and few that Pat just said, “walk where I walk”. At times we were very close to the edge, but only if it was safe. Last year 7 people died at the Cliffs. Dumb mistakes and trying to get on close to the edge was the main reason. It was windy and at the end near the visitors center, the wind could almost knock you down. The views were amazing and we saw views that most people never see. The waterfall was one of them. Only visible from the Cliff Trail. The e was one casualty. A women stepped wrong and twisted her ankle. The Coast Guard came to take her to the hospital. We did not get to witness the rescue because we were already ahead and Pat’s assistant guide, Elizabeth was with the woman. He says this happens.
After the hike, we boarded a shuttle bus that took us to a boat to see the cliffs from the water. Very windy and rough water on the way out but spectacular views. Dinner at O’Connors Pub- Irish beef stew and bangers and mash. Drive home was about 1 1/2 hours. We drove both ways thru beautiful countryside with hundreds of stone walls, animals and lovely landscapes. Vince is really getting the hang of driving on the opposite side.
