The GGCE - Day 4
Slept great last night. It cooled off and the stars and sounds lulled you into deep sleep. The usual 5:15 am wake-up call. Everyone is getting very proficient with breaking down camp and reloading the rafts. Eggs and sausage for breakfast. We hit the Granite Falls Rapids within minutes. It was a BIG one! We headed toward an area of the canyon where the rapids are names after jewels. Crystal, Agate, Sapphire, Turquoise, Ruby and Serpentine. Crystal Rapids was another HUGE, 10 rated rapid. More Schist rock with granite stripes.

First stop was at mile 108 to see the metal boat that was abandoned by motion picture man Charles S. Russell in 1915. The boat was designed and built by Bert Loper and named for a local steamboat pilot Roswell "Ross" Wheeler. Hard to imagine that they traveled in small boats like these.

More rapids and then a stop at Shinumo Creek. (mile 109.5)  We hiked back to the creek where we found a small waterfall. We swam under the falls and cooled off for awhile.

More good size rapids and at mile 117.5 we stopped for aother hike to Elves Chasm. Up and over rocks to a beautiful small waterfall that trickled into a deep pool. There was a lower cave and an open area above. This water was colder than the creek earlier but fun and refreshing.

A short trip down to mile 119 and we stopped at a huge beach for the night. Interesting rock formations behind us and Big Horn Sheep on the rock above. One even visited our bathroom. Chairs in the water, great conversation and a relaxing time before dinner. Grilled pork chops, applesauce, grilled squash, slaw followed by dutch oven brownies. Another great night sleeping under the stars, the Milky Way and the sound of the water.
