Exploring Prague

Prague-days 3
Another free day. Our friends had signed up for a wine tasting excursion, so they did not join us. We crossed the Charles Bridge  to the Lennon Wall. In 1980, the people of Czechoslovakia were inspired by the songs, "Imagine" and " Give Peace a Chance". They painted John Lennon's face and various quotes from the songs on the wall. The Communist Regime did not like this at all and would paint over it daily. Every morning there was new words of inspiration. This went on until 1989 when Czechoslovakia was free. Now it is a huge graffiti wall.
We headed to the Castle Square which is the area just outside the castle gates. We followed the river to a Charles Bridges and had more great viewpoints of the bridge and castle. Once we reached the Castle Square, we saw small palaces, churches, shops and cafe's that are in this area. We visited the monastery as well. Vineyards and fruit trees line the area below the monastery. Great views of the city from high on the hill.
Another great lunch of sausages and pork steak from the street side vendors, and of course Marty had beer. He tried several local beers during this trip and was not disappointed by any. This area is also a Mecca for sorbet and ice cream. I have sampled many sorbets and they are all natural fruit-based products and not much extra sugar if any at all. Love it.
On our way down the hill, walking thru what is called Lesser Town, we hear a " Hey Marty". We turn around and it is Greg Witt and his wife; the owner of Alpenwild and our guide for half of our hiking trip in Switzerland. Who would have thought we would ever run into anyone we knew!!! We chatted awhile, took some pictures and were on our way. We had to get back to shower and change for our classical concert.
Before we entered the concert hall, our guide took us across the street to the library to see the sculpture created with thousands of books. A tubular structure - floor to ceiling. It was quite remarkable.
The concert was held in a church that has been called the mirrored  chapel because of mirrors on the wall and ceiling. Beautiful marvel columns and marble framed walls with pictures were in the interior. I have never seen marble that was gray, red and gold. It was beautiful. The church had an organ in front and one in back. Mozart played the one in the back. A chamber orchestra- 3 violins, viola, cello and harpsichord made up the players. The acoustics were amazing. Music was played for over an hour. Outstanding!!!!!
When we returned, we went to eat at a local Italian restaurant with our friends.
