History and tranquility
After taking ourselves to the limit for the past two days, we took hikes that were not extremely difficult but were large in beauty and tranquil scenes. For the past two days we have had picture perfect weather. We began the day with a scenic 3.5 mile hike that followed the curves of the Virgin River on the south end of the canyon. Cottonwood trees were snowing and prickly pear cactus were blooming along with various other wildflowers. A stop at the Human History Museum to watch a movie on the history and development of Zion and it's importance to Native Americans. Several displays of artifacts were also there to view. We caught the shuttle to the north end for another hike along that section of the river. Here the canyon was more narrow and steep walls edged the river. Wide, slower moving areas provided perfect places for people to test the waters.
We returned and decided to explore the neighboring town of Springdale. We had world famous Bumbleberry pie. Some secret recipe and it was delicious. Back to Zion just in time to catch a 3D movie on the National Parks narrated by Robert Redford. Outstanding filming!
You would think our day should be over, but no- time for a snack and craft beer tasting at the Zion Brew Pub.
There was one last hike on our list-The Watchman Trail. It provided breathtaking views up and down the canyon. I am so glad we did it.
We head for Bryce Canyon tomorrow for the next part of our adventure.
